Updated Swine Flu Information
Update Flu Information
10/07/09
Dear Parents,
I am happy to provide you with an update to the letter we provided you at the beginning of the school year regarding the H1N1 flu virus, commonly called the swine flu. Symptoms of the swine flu are similar to that of the common seasonal flu, and may include fever, feeling tired, not hungry, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In some cases, flu can result in serious illness and even death.
Because Thomas A. Edison Charter School is interested in the well being of each of our families and our community, we want to remind you of ways you can protect your family and help the community from becoming ill:
· Prior to sending your child to school each day, check them for flu-like symptoms.
· Keep children who have flu-like symptoms at home;
DO NOT send them to school.
· If your child is has a fever DO NOT send them to school until they are free of a
fever for at least 24 hours without using fever reducing medications.
· All family members should wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds.
· If coughing or sneezing, use tissues or clothing by coughing into the inside of the elbow.
· Avoid touching your face as much as possible, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth.
· Stay away from people who are sick.
· Those who are sick should stay home from work or school and avoid other people
until they are better. This includes going out to restaurants and shopping when sick.
I trust that you will find the above information helpful. Children not experiencing flu-like symptoms should be in school. However, please plan for the possibility that you will be called to take your child home if they get sick while in school.
If you have any questions regarding the H1N1 flu virus and our schools response to the issue, please do not hesitate to contact me. Be assured that we are taking every appropriate measure to maintain a healthy and safe environment for your children.
Sincerely,
Alina M. Columbus, Ed.D.
